From the PLP:
Well, I made it. I survived a middle seat. My hotel is stupid. It’s the hotel a mile or two away from where the conference is. And they only have the shuttle available once a day going and coming. So, I’m stuck at the conference the whole time. I can’t just come back to my room to work or anything. There are only about 15 people stuck in this hotel. Everyone else is at the conference hotel. So stupid.
I just need to get through this week.
My Response:
I’m sorry for the lame hotel. Try to have fun and enjoy not needing to
pay attention. You get to relax at the conference, enjoy everyone else,
mingle, and eat. Plus you get to see Jerusalem. I hope things will get
better and you’ll have some fun.
You can do it.
My Real Feelings:
Um, you are in another country on the dime of your company. If you would like you can go out and see what there is to see. Yes, you may have to pay for your own meals, but it is your choice how to approach the conference. You are in another hotel, which means no one will see you or bug you. You can miss the shuttle and just chill at the hotel. Order room service, walk the beach. If you want to work, then work. Take a taxi, back and forth, it’s not really a big deal.
So I see you’ve chosen to be pissed at having a middle seat, a distant hotel, and a free week to do whatever. You can mingle, you can network, you can find a seat in a lobby and pretend that you aren’t with the conference. I don’t fully understand the attitude that everything is dumb and makes you mad. You aren’t being picked on. You are getting a reward. Make a little effort to find some sunshine and stop gripping about this job that doesn’t appreciate you and won’t listen to your needs when they keep bending over backwards to accommodate you.
At least I can see that it’s not just me she doesn’t appreciate. She doesn’t appreciate anything.
